Audio Book Builder

I love this application. Initially I used it to load “stories” to my nano. I have since discovered it is a great application to load “stories” to my iPhone. I’m mildly familiar with the app so it was logical for me to continue to use it, It’s simple and straight forward and easy to use!

App produces a wonderful product

Easy to use. Interfaces easily with iTunes. Try it.

Undo is the major lacking feature

Overall, this software is great, but there are a few missing features that would make it perfect. The order split groups of tracks (chapters) adds extra manual labor. After all the discs are imported the tracks go from 1-N in-order with discs from 1-N in one giant group. When you split out the first, say, five tracks that comprise the first chapter those tracks go to the bottom of the chapter list. When you split out the next seven tracks, rather than going to the bottom of the list they go immediately below the giant group. As you continue to split out chapters this leaves them in reverse order so you need to re-sort them before exporting. I could work bottom-up starting with the last chapter instead of the first to solve this, but it should behave in a manner that doesnt create extra work whether I work top-down, bottom-up, or somewhere in the middle. I would like to see the apps chapter splitting and joining work more like iPhotos event splitting and joining. When importing directly from CD through the app Id really like to see disc and track numbers on each individual track. This way I wont confuse "track 1" from disc 1 with "track 1" from disc two. Since I havent read the book these can be impossible to distinguish by listening. Undo support while organizing chapters would be nice, but might not be necessary if the above two feature requests were implemented. While Im splitting the single group of tracks into chapters sometimes I missed grabbing a track. Its not difficult to re-join, but Im often worried Ill get the tracks out of order since I dont know which disc "track 1" came from.

too slow

It takes way too long to process a book.

Great APP

This is definately a Great App to Build Audio books. Highly Reco!!

Easy and Fast Program

This app is eaxactly what Ive always wished for! Ive always imported audiobooks from cd the hard way - individually changing the settings on each disc in iTunes and hand-connecting the discs into one file. Audiobook Builder makes this so much easier! Just open it up, add a description and a cover image, and load up the discs. The program is very well thought-out. As youre sitting waiting for the audiobooks to be imported to the program, disc by disc, the program makes a sound each time its finished with a disc. This is great! Some of these 20+ disc audiobooks can take a while to upload, so I can browse the internet or work while its running in the background, and the sound reminds me to put in the next disc. This is just a smooth and polished program. You can stop in the middle of loading a particular audiobook and come back to it later to import the rest of the cds, in case you are interrupted. Ive had a few scratched cds that wouldnt load, but I give them a quick polish and they have all loaded the second time. I havent come across any type of time limit on the books. I have Game of Thrones imported, and that baby is more than 30 hours long! I loaded the discs all at once and the program split them into three sections for me, and all three sections are still recognized by iTunes as one book. Thank you developers for a professional, simple app that does exactly what I need.

Excellent app for compiling audio books from Cds!

This app is usable with the Voiceover screen-reader, and does exactly as advertised.

Ugh!

I have wasted more time trying to get this app to perform than it is possibly worth. The help guide is very poor and the email support isnt much better. I should have saved my money because in each instance I finally found a way to download books on cds WITHOUT THIS FREAKING APP!!!!

Great App - Easy To Use

Love audiobooks? This app does exactly what it says. Easy to use. Highly recommended.

Excellent App for Book Lovers!

Ive been using Audiobook Builder since 2011, and its been absolutely fabulous to take my audiobook CDs and turn them into audiobooks on my ipod. Havent had a hiccup with the application yet! Thanks!

Great solution to avoid re-importing a large audiobook library

This app does just what it describes quickly and efficiently. I was able to join together all of my Harry Potter books (individually) in one evening. Though I did not add artwork to each chapter of the book, this app does have that capability! Also, using the "normal" quality setting the completed file was about half the size of the original, with no discernable difference in audio quality. There are three quality settings, High, Normal and Low. I would assume that the "low" setting would take even less space. As others have noted, it automatically turns books longer than 13 hours into multiple parts. This is a minor fault in my estimation compared to the 200+ original tracks I was dealing with.

So easy my mom can use it

Straightforward and intuitive. Wish every app could work this well.

Awesome app

I dont write reviews often, but this app deserves a review. I had the Harry Potter books in MP3 format and this converted them to audiobook format seamlessly. In fact The Deathly Hallows was from a CD and had TONS of separate files. I was finally able to consolidate them into a more manageable format and organize the chapters. Worth the money considering the audio book format of the Potter books is over $400.

Very Useful!

I always had such trouble dealing with all my audiobooks that I got of CDs and such. This makes the audiobooks work just perfect for iTunes.

Huge Time Saver!!!!!!!

This app is a breeze to work with and takes all the headache out of audiobook building! worth every penny! one caveat: it will not allow you to merge "protected" files so any digitally purchased files (audible, iTunes, etc.) wont work. great for CDs tho!

Thanks!

Ive been waiting for an Mac app like this for years and tried a few that were junk. I appreciate how reliable this App has been, as well as the thought the developer has put into making audio book assembly workflow efficient. Ripping my CDs to audio books is as simple as inserting the next disc when the app asks for it. Best $5 I’ve spent on any app.

Doesnt work

bought this for allegiant, uploaded cds to iTunes, trying to make it work. when i did manage to put them all together, it went to itunes, made 2 copies and both dont work, deleted and started over. no success. it doesnt put files in order, added extra cd. yes the cds are labled correctly, not worth 5 bucks. will ask for a refund.

Wonderful audiobook builder

This application makes perfect audiobooks! No more fighting to rip audiobook cd’s into iTunes only to have iTunes Match add them to music. What a headache. With Audiobook Builder, iTunes put the audiobook files correctly into the audiobooks section. No fuss.

Excited and then let down...

I was hoping this app would automagicaly find and add the cover art and tag details from perfectly tagged mp3, etc.. files that itunes loves… Is this something that could be added? Thx!

Was Perviously More Stable

Was Perviously More Stable I used to feel very good about this app but have since changed my mind. I have been having a lot of false positive media errors where I get an esoteric media error on an otherwise good cd that plays fine. The error(s) are nondescript enough to make them useless. I often reborn the cd in question and it magically "works" wasting a lot of time. Note: it used to perform better across both of my macs. Perhaps something has changed in the updates. Buyer Beware
